As is the case with all motorized sports, safety is largely influenced by the decisions/actions of the operator. Safety is greatly enhanced through careful training and good decision making. The risk of serious injury in Backpack flying is probably equal to, or less than risk associated with on-road motorcycling.
Training is the most important component for safe enjoyment of Backpack aviation. In the beginning you will meet with your Backpack ground school instructor at one of our training locations (Wayland, Dorr, or Holland). Training sessions last 1-3 hours, and are offered around your schedule. In most cases you will enjoy your first solo flight after 4-6 sessions. Actual training and support continues for as long as required, at no added cost.
Cost can vary slightly, but most Backpack Flyer students will spend $8,000-$10,000 to purchase top-of-the-line gear, including flight training.
No, less than half of the full package price is required to learn to solo the BackPack Flyer; your first flights will be completed using school motors.
Contact us and schedule to come out to one of our fields and observe some Backpack flyers in action, or maybe even watch an actual ground school training session.

You run forward a few steps until you're whisked off the ground by the Backpack Flyer. You need to see this in person to believe it.
Easily and softly - right on your feet!
Technically your backpack flyer can take you up thousands of feet, but most flights are between ten and 1500 feet above the ground.
Most people can fly for two to three hours before needing to refuel; remember - a fill-up is only about two and a half gallons of gasoline!
Typically, the Backpack Flyer flies between 20 and 25 mph.
No license is required, or available for this catagory of micro-aircraft.
The entire backpack flyer can be transported in the back seat of a Honda Civic; to store the backpack flyer when not in use you can simply hang it on the wall in your garage (no need to pay aircraft storage or hanger fees).
Yes, after you take off you will fly in style - relaxed in a padded seat until it's time to land.
